Course payment plans

Coursebricks offers course payment plans for training providers, so learners can spread the cost of higher-priced training. Learners pay a down payment at checkout, and each instalment after that is charged to their saved card automatically, so nobody chases payments.

Let learners spread the cost of expensive courses.

Coursebricks payment plans let learners pay a down payment by card when they book a course and the rest in instalments. Each instalment is charged automatically to the card saved at checkout.

  • Learners choose how often and how many instalments

Coursebricks payment plan templates set the schedules on offer, the down payment and the agreement learners sign. Assign a template to the courses you want to sell in instalments.

  • Weekly, bi-weekly or monthly instalments
  • Down payment as a fixed amount or a percentage
  • A cap on how long the plan can run
  • Your own payment plan agreement text

Get enough paid before the course starts.

Each Coursebricks payment plan template can require a share of the price to be paid before the course starts. It also controls how close to the start a plan can begin and how long instalments run after the course ends.

  • A minimum percentage paid before the course starts
  • Plans offered only when there is enough time before the start
  • A limit on instalments after the course ends

Stop chasing instalments.

Coursebricks charges each instalment to the learner's saved card on its due date. Failed charges are retried automatically, and plans that stay unpaid are marked as defaulted.

  • Automatic retries for failed charges, on a schedule you set
  • Paying the order in full settles the remaining instalments
  • Workflows can email the learner when an instalment is paid or fails

How to sell a course in instalments in Coursebricks

Coursebricks takes a payment plan from template to final instalment in four steps, with bookings, card payments and workflows in the same system.

  1. Step 1

    Create a payment plan template

Connect Stripe, then choose the schedules, down payment and agreement text learners get, and how much must be paid before the course starts.

  2. Step 2

    Assign the template to courses

Attach the template to the courses you want to sell in instalments, such as higher-priced qualifications.

  3. Step 3

    Learners choose instalments at checkout

Learners pick how often and how many instalments, sign the payment plan agreement online and pay the down payment by card. Their card is saved for the instalments.

  4. Step 4

    Let Coursebricks collect the instalments

Coursebricks charges each instalment on its due date and retries failed charges. Your team sees every plan's status and steps in only when a plan needs it.

What are course payment plans?

Course payment plans let learners pay for a course in instalments instead of one upfront payment. Coursebricks offers course payment plans for training providers: learners pay a down payment by card at checkout, sign the payment plan agreement online, and each weekly, bi-weekly or monthly instalment is charged automatically to their saved card.

How are Coursebricks payment plans different from invoicing each instalment by hand?

Coursebricks payment plans collect instalments automatically. With manual invoicing, a finance team sends an invoice for each instalment and chases each payment. In Coursebricks the learner's card is saved at checkout, each instalment is charged on its due date, and failed charges are retried.

Can learners pay for a course in instalments?

Yes. In Coursebricks, learners choose how often and how many instalments to pay at checkout, sign the payment plan agreement online and pay the down payment by card through Stripe. Each instalment is then charged automatically to the saved card on its due date.

What payment plan schedules can I offer for a course?

Weekly, bi-weekly or monthly instalments. Each Coursebricks payment plan template sets the schedules on offer, the down payment as a fixed amount or a percentage, how long the plan can run and the agreement text. You assign templates to the courses you choose.

Can I require part of the price to be paid before a course starts?

Yes. A Coursebricks payment plan template can require a minimum percentage of the price to be paid before the course starts. The template can also limit how long instalments run after the course ends.

What happens if an instalment payment fails?

Coursebricks retries the failed charge automatically, on a schedule you set. If the retries still fail, the payment plan is marked as defaulted. Paid and failed instalments can trigger workflows, for example to email the learner.

Can staff manage payment plans manually?

Yes. Staff in Coursebricks can cancel a payment plan, reactivate it with new due dates, mark it as defaulted, and record an instalment paid by cash, bank transfer or another method. If the order is paid in full, the payment plan is completed automatically.

Can learners pay a payment plan by bank transfer?

Not online. The down payment at checkout is paid by card through Stripe, so Coursebricks payment plans need Stripe. If a learner pays an instalment by bank transfer, cash or another method, staff record it as a manual payment.
